Project Summary

The Challenge

This home remodel in Clarks Summit began with a first floor that no longer matched the needs of a growing family. While the Tudor-style home had strong architectural character, the kitchen and dining areas felt closed off and difficult to use for everyday life. The existing kitchen layout offered limited workspace, outdated cabinetry, and little seating for family gatherings.

The laundry room was narrow with minimal storage, making it hard to keep the space organized. The powder room also reflected older finishes that no longer matched the homeowners’ vision for the rest of the home.

During demolition, additional challenges became clear. Parts of the exterior wall revealed aging masonry block construction that required repair and structural framing. Sections of flooring had to be removed so plumbing and utilities could be updated, and interior walls needed to be opened to improve insulation and structural support.

For this Clarks Summit home remodel, the homeowners wanted a layout that felt open and functional while preserving the charm of their historic home.

Our Solution

NEPA Builders provided a consultative approach that set us apart from competitors. To bring new life to the first floor, NEPA Builders created a design that improved flow between the kitchen, dining area, and nearby living spaces. Interior walls were removed to open the layout and allow natural light to move more freely through the home.

The centerpiece of this home remodel in Clarks Summit is a spacious kitchen designed around a large island that offers both seating and preparation space. White cabinetry paired with natural stone countertops creates a bright, timeless look, while black and brass pendant lighting adds contrast and warmth above the island.

Large rear windows were incorporated into the design with built-in cabinetry and countertop space beneath them. This feature adds storage while highlighting the natural light and views of the backyard.

The laundry room was redesigned with floor-to-ceiling cabinetry in a rich green finish. These cabinets provide generous storage while introducing a bold design element. A marble countertop, utility sink, and patterned wallpaper complete the space.

The powder room received a full update as well, featuring a new vanity, updated fixtures, and dramatic floral wallpaper that creates a standout design feature within the home.

Process

This Clarks Summit home remodel began with careful demolition of outdated cabinetry, walls, and finishes throughout the first floor. As the interior was opened, sections of the exterior wall revealed older masonry block construction that required reinforcement and reframing.

Structural framing was installed to support wider openings between rooms and allow for the new kitchen layout. Portions of the existing floor were removed so plumbing and electrical systems could be updated and repositioned to fit the new design.

Exterior walls were rebuilt with updated framing and spray foam insulation to improve comfort and efficiency. Once the structural work was complete, installation began on the new kitchen layout, including custom cabinetry, natural stone countertops, and the large center island.

Lighting and electrical systems were installed to support recessed ceiling lights and decorative pendant fixtures. The laundry room cabinetry was then installed, followed by countertops, fixtures, and appliances.

Final work included flooring installation, wallpaper in the powder room and laundry space, trim work, lighting fixtures, and appliance placement.

The Outcome

The finished renovation brought new life to this historic Clarks Summit home. The updated first floor now offers a layout that supports everyday family routines while also creating inviting spaces for gathering and entertaining.

The kitchen has become the central hub of the home, with the island serving as a natural meeting point for meals, conversations, and daily activities. Improved storage throughout the kitchen and laundry room keeps the home organized, while updated materials and finishes introduce a fresh look that still respects the traditional Tudor character of the property.

By combining thoughtful design with structural improvements, this home remodel created a more functional, comfortable living environment for the homeowners and their family.
